Wolves fall at home to Iowa Mennonite

WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union baseball team played their final regular season game of the year on Tuesday night, playing Iowa Mennonite in SEISC North Division play. It was tough sledding for the W-MU offense, as the Wolves fell 9-0.

Starting pitcher Jacob Ford kept the Wolves in the game for the first four innings. Iowa Mennonite scored one run in the third frame, but the score stayed 1-0 until IMS caught fire in the fifth.

IMS batted around in the fifth frame and scored seven runs, three of which came on a bases-clearing double by Blake Bontrager.

W-MU was unable to recover from the seven-run fifth. IMS put up one more run in the seventh frame.

W-MU didn’t tally any hits in the loss. IMS starter Trevor Layden struck out eight Wolves.

Ford gave up eight earned runs on five and two-thirds innings of work. Nick Crow also pitched int eh game, giving up one unearned run over one inning.

W-MU is now 1-22 on the year. They’ll travel to Notre Dame on Saturday, July 13 for their district opener.
