WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union basketball teams were swept at home on Friday night in a SEISC North Division doubleheader against Wapello. The boys fell 66-40 in their game, and the girls were beaten 48-30.
The boys’ team trailed 12-10 after the first quarter, but a big run by Wapello in the second quarter made it 33-16 Indians at the half. Wapello took the third quarter 23-7, but W-MU did save face in the fourth, winning it 17-11.
Christian Gerot scored 13 points in the loss. Graham Hagge and Jared Arnold scored seven points apiece. Josh Burroughs had six. Ty Yocum scored four points and seven rebounds, and Jacob Kongable finished with three.
The Wapello girls took an 11-4 lead after the first quarter and led 24-11 at halftime. The Arrows outscored the Wolves 24-19 in the second half.
Jenna Buffington picked up a double-doucle in the loss, scoring 11 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Liana Sweezer scored four points and had nine rebounds of her own. Jami Wilkerson had three points in the loss. Ali Cockerham, Kayla Edwards and Carlee Sloan had two points apiece and Jobey Malone had one.
