Rhett Zeglen is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther boys’ golf team.

Zeglen has been on the varsity squad for the last two years, and is also the son of head coach Rob Zeglen. In the wintertime, he plays on the Panther boys’ basketball team.

Zeglen met with The News on Wednesday after practice. The questions are in bold with the answers following.

Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? I actually grew up going to WACO in Crawfordsville until sixth grade, or I guess I transferred in sixth grade.

How long have you been golfing? Since I was little. I played in the junior PGA when I was little, and it just kind of went on from there.

Do you consider yourself more of a golfer or more of a basketball player? More of a basketball player for sure.

Have you any plans for after high school? I’m going to Graceland in Lamoni to play basketball.

What’s it like having your dad as a coach? You know, when I started golfing, I didn’t think it would be that fun, having the parent and the hard coaching, but it’s actually not as difficult as I thought it would be. He treats me like everyone else.

Do you ever go out and play match play with him? Never.

Would he beat you? No, I’d beat him and he’d cry.

Are there any advantages to being a left-handed golfer? There isn’t any big advantages to being left-handed in golf. A lot of golf courses are set up where the trouble is on the left, so right-handed golfers are safe from it.

What is it about a course that scares you? Definitely the roads on the left. Roads on the left are not my friend.

Do you have any nicknames? R.J. is the big one.

Where is the “J” coming from? My middle name is Joseph.

Do you have any irrational fears? Spiders. I’m scared of spiders.

If you see one, will you kill it or make one of your teammates or parents kill it? Oh, someone else will kill it.

What is your favorite movie? That’s a tough one. Probably “Unstoppable.”

Who is your seat buddy on rides to meets? I sit by myself. I sit in the passenger’s seat.

If you could go out for one sport that you haven’t been able to play in high school, what would it be? Lacrosse. I would like to play lacrosse or hockey.

Would you be a speedy forward scorer or more like a defender, knocking people over and stuff? That’s tough. I’d like to do both, but I’d probably be the scorer.

Can you skate at all? I’ve never skated actually.

If you could hang out with one celebrity for a day, who would it be? Mark Wahlberg.

How come? I don’t know. I’ve just always liked Mark Wahlberg. How he talks, and how he is.

What would you guys do? I don’t know. We’d probably go golf, he’s a big golfer.

Do you think you could block his shot, since he’s short? Probably.

What if you could pick a superpower to have? That’s hard. I’d want to fly.

If you had the power to fly right now, would you go somewhere exotic? No, I’d save the miles on my vehicles and just fly everywhere.

Do you have a favorite teacher? I do not have a favorite teacher.

Do you have a favorite subject? P.E.

Any superstitions? Not during golf, but during basketball it was always same undershirt, same spandex, same socks.

Wash them every time? Yep.

Even on Friday-Saturday doubleheaders? Yep, they had to be washed.
