NEW LONDON — The New London boys hung on by a thread to knock off rival Danville in a SEISC South Division matchup on Friday night. The Tigers beat the Bears 63-62 in yet another close game betweeen the two squads.
The Tigers held a small lead throughout the game but just couldn’t pull away from a stingy Danville squad. Luckily for New London, two starters went over 20 points in the scoring column.
Mason Porter led the way with 22 points in the win. Grant Swanson finished with 20.
The Tigers gave the Bears quite the battle in the girls’ game before falling 48-39. Danville led 11-9 after the first quarter and 23-18 at halftime but a huge third quarter from New London gave the Tigers a 34-27 lead going into the final quarter.
The Bears clamped down and took the lead back in the final period, closing the game on a 21-5 run to steal back the victory.
Layney Loyd had 11 points to lead the Tigers in the loss. Marah Harrtrick and Ashlyn McSorley also hit double-digits, scoring 10 each.
