It was a perfect day for a track meet on Tuesday in Mt. Pleasant, and a packed field of runners all the way from Class 1A to Class 4A pinned their ears back for fast-time potential just one week before the Drake Relays.
Mt. Pleasant led the four Henry County schools with four wins on the day, scoring 107 points for second in Class A. New London scored 47 points. WACO scored 40.50, and Winfield-Mt. Union finished with 35.
The Panthers took the top two spots in the 100-meter hurdles. Karsyn Lamm crossed the tape in 17.12 seconds, and Maddie Williamson finished just behind her in 17.15 seconds.
Abby Ryon took the 3000 with a final time of 10:49.12. Maggie Cristoforo took the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.02, and Lexie Magnani won the shot put with a 40-00.50. Allt hree of those athletes currently sit in the top five in their event in Class 3A.
The Mt. Pleasant distance medley team, which is also top five in 3A, took first. The team of Kenna Lamm, Lyndi Vantiger, Cristoforo and Maggie Jennings finished the race in 4:24.66.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Williamson, Cristoforo, Kenna and Karsyn finished second place, crossing in 1:09.89. Lyndi Vantiger took the long jump with a leap of 16-06.
New London didn’t have any Class B winners but they did have four second-place finishes. Lexi Brown took second in two events, finishing the 3000 in 11:20.96, and the 1500 in 5:17.93.
The distance medley team of Jenna Hummell, Sophie Lounsbury, Aliyah Christensen and Brown took the silver in 4:43.20. Hummell took second in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 29.14 seconds.
WACO had two wins on the day and one second. The WACO shuttle hurdle team of Laney Graber, Taylor Sammons, Grace Conwell and Molly McLaughlin won in 1:15.15, and McLaughlin took the 100-meter hurdles in 18.14 seconds.
Grace Conwell took second in the 400-meter hurdles. She crossed the tape in 1:14.65.
W-MU had one second place on the day. The shuttle hurdle team of Jami Wilkerson, Ali Cockerham, Kayla Kyndal and Townsley finished right behind WACO in 1:17.73.
