The Mt. Pleasant girls’ eighth-grade basketball teams split with Fairfield on Monday. The A-team clipped the Trojans 30-25, and the B-team was defeated 24-4.
The A-Team fell behind early, trailing 10-7 after the first quarter. Mt. Pleasant outscored Fairfield 8-2 in the second quarter to take a 15-12 lead into halftime.
Mt. Pleasant stretched their lead to 24-20 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Trojans 6-5 in the fourth.
Tristian Shull led the way with 13 points for the A-team. Chelsea Herrick had seven points. Andrea Lopreato finished with five. Mackenzie Musselman had three, and Kate Schimmelpfennig ended with two.
The “B” game didn’t go as well for Mt. Pleasant. Fairfield led 4-0 after one quarter and 10-0 at halftime. The Panthers finally scored in the third but trailed 16-2 after the third quarter, and eventually fell by 20.
Just two players scored in the “B” game. Meena Deesawasmon finished the day with two points, and Leah Allen had two as well.
