*Editor’s note: Following the publication of this article, the Wine About Winter event was rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21, due to incoming inclement weather.
People will be “wine-ing” about winter at Main Street Mt. Pleasant’s Wine About Winter event on Thursday, Feb. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Wine About Winter is a free event for anyone 21-years-old and older to sample wine in businesses in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
“After last week, people have plenty to whine about winter this year,” said Lisa Oetken, Main Street director. “It’s a great way to get out, celebrate Valentine’s Day, and see what businesses we have to offer.”
No need to bring your own wineglass — sample cups will be available at each storefront serving wine samples. There also will be food and other goodies to pick up along the way, Oetken said.
About 15 businesses will be participating Thursday. Maps will be available.
On the maps, there will be a place for a signature from each business owner. Once all locations have been visited and the map is full of signatures, they can be dropped off at with the participants name and a phone number at the final stop to be entered for a chance to win a wine basket. The winner will be announced Friday morning.
Oetken said Wine About Winter is free for everyone to see what downtown Mt. Pleasant has to offer — at no cost.
“It’s nice to come out with your friends, spouse or co-workers and have a good time downtown,” Oetken said, adding that she suspects by the time February rolls around, everyone will be ready to get out of the house after spending the colder winter months indoors.
Oetken expects around 150 to 200 people to step downtown Thursday for Wine About Winter.
“Success will depend on the weather,” Oetken said. “We might get some snow on Thursday, but it’s not going to be anything as brutal as last week.”
Wine About Winter is Main Street Mt. Pleasant’s first event of 2019. Oetken said there is an event planned at least once a month for the rest of the year.
