John Housman was only expecting one gift this fall but instead got two.
He knew he was expecting the birth of a grandsom, but he was not expecting his company, Wiley’s Interior Furnishings and Design, would be honored with the BrandSource Dealer of the Year Award.
BrandSource is a buying group that helps dealers with a variety of things from marketing and pricing to buying power and building websites.
Each year, the company hosts two major conventions: one in spring and one in fall. This year it was to be held in Las Vegas.
Housman and his wife typically attend the events when they can, but decided not to this year because they were expecting a new grandchild to arrive around the same time.
Housman said his representative called him a couple of months before the event and asked if he would be attending. When he said no, the rep was able to break the good news: Wiley’s was named BrandSource Dealer of the Year Award.
“It just surprised the heck out of me,” he said. “We’re just a little dealer here in southeast Iowa.”
That little dealer was rewarded for their participation in BrandSource programs and dedication to customer service.
Housman said the initial surprise quickly turned into dread as he assumed he would have to turn down the award because he would be unable to attend the convention.
Instead, the company sent out a camera crew to create a video to play at the award ceremony.
Now, Wiley’s employees have new T-shirts, the store a commemorative rug and even a plaque to sit at the front desk to let everyone know of their accomplishment. Although Housman was called about the award, he’s quick to say the success is the work of the whole team.
“There’s been a lot of long hours, a lot of hard work, a lot of missed other things in life, but it’s not me that deserves the award, its Wiley’s Interior that deserved the award,” he said. “It’s a group effort, it’s a group award. We work hard and it’s nice to be recognized.”
