New London Library burglarized by minors; suspects caught

NEW LONDON — Two suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Southern Iowa Area Juvenile Detention Center in Montrose after the H.J. Hugen Library, in New London, was robbed on Sunday, Dec. 30.

A 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male were taken into custody on Friday, Jan. 4, and transported to the detention center after allegedly robbing the H.J. Nugen Library. They are being held until a court hearing.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and some property damaged at the library.

The suspects were found with the assistance of local businesses, citizens and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
