Mt. Pleasant is partnering with Live Healthy Iowa to host a 5K on Saturday, April 13, as a part of Live Healthy Iowa’s initiative to support community wellness.
The race will be held at East Lake Park and will begin and end by the softball diamonds. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. with a kids’ fun run to follow at 9 a.m. On site registration for both events will be open the morning of the race at 7:30 a.m.
“The Healthy Henry County Communities coalition is excited to partner with Live Healthy Iowa to offer this fun and healthy event,” said Kelly Carr, healthy communities director with Public Health. “We look forward to welcoming area participants to our community and celebrating the efforts of all on race day.”
All participants will receive a Live Healthy Iowa 5K T-shirt, race number, finisher medal and the opportunity to win door prizes.
Chuck Long, Iowa Sports Foundation CEO and Executive Director, said they are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Mt. Pleasant in putting on this year’s Live Healthy Iowa 5Ks.
“The Live Healthy Iowa 5K events are a great way to come together in celebration of healthy communities,” Long said.
Mt. Pleasant is one of 18 communities to host a Live Healthy Iowa 5K this year. Live Healthy Iowa 5Ks also will be held in Fairfield, Asbury, Bondurant, Britt, Carroll, Decorah, Dike, Hiawatha, Ida Grove, Onawa, Perry, Rathbun Lake, Sergeant Bluff, Sioux Center, Sperry, Story City and Waukee.
Carr said she hopes this is the first of many Live Healthy Iowa 5K’s in Henry County with it being more in the center of southeast Iowa.
“It’s a great partnership with them. They provide a lot of the support, the T-shirts, the registration and send everything to us boxed up and ready to go,” Carr said. “I hope it goes well on Saturday. Weather is a big driving factor for any outdoor event.”
There is a fee to register for this event. Participants in the 10 Week Wellness Challenge can receive a $10 discount on registration by redeeming a coupon code. The Wellness Challenge had teams of two to 10 people track activity minutes or weight loss through Live Healthy Iowa’s website. The challenge was from Jan. 14 through March 22.
Proceeds from the 5K will go to benefit the Healthy Henry County Wellness Coalition and Live Healthy Iowa Kids initiatives.
