Man transported by Air Evac to UI Hospital after 2-vehicle accident Saturday

A man was transported by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for injuries after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 200th Street and Nebraska Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Heather Timmerman, 41, of Mt. Pleasant was traveling northbound on Nebraska Avenue in a 1997 Dodge Ram truck and failed to stop at a stop sign. Timmerman’s vehicle struck a 2004 Chevrolet Venture van driven by Aaron Cummings, 41, of rural Mt. Union.

The Cummings vehicle came to rest in a field northwest of the intersection. An adult passenger and three minor children exited Cummings’ vehicle uninjured.

Aaron Cummings was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by New London Fire and Rescue. He was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital for his injuries.

Timmerman, along with a minor child, exited her vehicle with only minor injuries.

Timmerman was issued a citation for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. Both vehicles were considered a total loss.

Assisting on scene was the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New London Fire and Rescue, Mt. Union Fire and Rescue, Henry County Health Center Ambulance, and the Air Evac helicopter.
