Three people were killed and others injured after a tractor-trailer overturned on Highway 34, leading to more crashes on Sunday, Feb. 3, around 3:30 a.m.
Wayne Salo, 68, of Souix City, was traveling eastbound on Highway 34 near mile marker 230 in a tractor-trailer when he lost control. The tractor trailer entered the left shoulder, then jackknifed, overturned and came to a stop on the drivers side, blocking both eastbound lanes of traffic.
Salo was injured and transported to Henry County Health Center, according to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol.
A minivan driven by Vicki Morrow, 74, of Ottumwa, then crashed into the tractor-trailer. Morrow and her two passengers, Daniel Yutzy, 44, and Kathryn Yutzy, 44, of Bloomfield, all died.
Morrow’s other two passengers, Henry Mast, 48, of Bloomfield, and Suzanne Mast, 48, of Bloomfield, were injured and taken to Henry County Health Center.
Guylain Landa, 31, of Cedar Rapids also crashed into the tractor-trailer. Landa was injured and transported to Henry County Health Center.
The crash is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
