Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.

This week’s friend is Devin McPherson, whom you may recognize from the local Family Video.

Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? No, I started dating my girlfriend, Samantha Trejo, in August of last year and decided to leave Fort Madison and move in with her here in Mt Pleasant in March of this year after being offered a promotion with Family Video, managing two stores (Mt Pleasant and Washington).

What is your favorite part of living here? I’m still new here, but so far my girlfriend, her family, and the community have been very pleasant, most everybody seems quite nice.

What is your favorite local hangout? I honestly don’t have one yet.

What do you like to do in your free time? Play with my sons, run, video games, I also like to have Bad Movie Parties where a group of us watch something awful like The Room or Samurai Cop and make fun of it.

What is your favorite summer activity? Going to Pollmiller Park in West Point, swimming, fishing, kayaking. Though I still need to look around this area and see if there’s something even better.

What is one thing you’ve not tried that you would like to? Skydiving. It’s been on my To-Do List for years but can never seem to be able to talk any of my friends into doing it. Strangely enough I’m terrified of heights so something like bungee jumping is out of the question.

Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn’t have that you’d like to see? I’m a sucker for Mongolian stir fry, so a Hu Hot would be amazing. Or a 24/7 bowling alley, I can never seem to catch the one here open.

What do you think is Mt. Pleasant/Henry County’s trademark? Old Threshers would be the obvious choice but I’m stoked y’all have a Breadeaux Pizza.

What’s one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? Probably the giant turkey legs from Old Threshers.

Tell us something interesting about you? I served in the USMC for four years as an 0351 assaultman which means I got to work with demolitions and rockets. Definitely a highlight to get paid to blow stuff up.
