Janet Mills is celebrating her 80th birthday on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
Mills was born on Feb. 12, 1939. She grew up in the Donnellson area before moving to a farm southwest of Mt. Pleasant when she married Jerry.
After high school, Mills taught elementary school until she had children of her own. Raising five kids and managing farm records kept her extremely busy.
After her kids were a little older, Mills filled in as a substitute teacher for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District.
Mills’ children are Jim (Toi) Mills, Jon (Shirley) Mills, Julie Alaniz, Jarren (Angela) Mills and Jerald Mills. She has 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with a third due within the next couple of weeks.
Mills’ children and grandchildren would like to invite friends to an open house celebration with cake and coffee on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salem Congregational Church in Salem. Please, no gifts.
Cards can be sent to 1189 286th Street, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa 52641.
