First meetings of Chapter NZ PEO

Chapter NZ of the P. E. O Sisterhood met Jan. 28, 2019, and Feb. 25, 2019, for their regular meetings. This January meeting was held at the Ashford Park Clubhouse with Jan Lange as hostess. Co-hostesses were Betty Lowe, Amy Lowe, Ally Lowe and Jean Thomson. Reports were given by officers, the membership committee, Iowa P.E.O. Project Fund chairman, and B&B chairman, Joyce Dennison gave the 2018 end of year report.

Elizabeth Garrels shared that 40 members from Chapter NZ attended the dinner and program for the 150th birthday celebration. The evening program was very wella trended from all over SE Iowa and the Des Moines area. The program was livestreamed and the link to the livestream is now posted with enhanced audio on the P.E.O. International website. The afternoon vignettes were also well attended and a DVD was made of the performances from Video Production Service. These DVDs are available for purchase by contacting Elizabeth Garrels.

The February meeting was held in the home of Karen Wenstrand with Connie Pedersen, Renee Davis, Ally Davis and Jan Benedict serving as co-hostesses. The chaplain, Lea McCormick shared the scripture; and reports from the recording secretary, the treasurer and the corresponding secretary were read. Treasurer, Deb Mascarenas presented the first reading of the 2019-20 budget. Karen Wenstrand, reporting for “The Sisterhood” membership committee, shared of visiting several homebound members.

Karen Brimhall, reporting for the sesquicentennial committee, shared that they will need additional tour givers and guides for the sesquicentennial convention, Spet. 10-15, 2019, in Mt. Pleasant. She emphasized that jobs will be easy with minimal preparation. General information meetings are to be held Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 6, at 9 a.m.

Volunteers are encouraged to attend one of the meetings. members willing to help, in any capacity, are to contact Karen Brimhall or Liz Garrels by March 15. It is anticipated that Mt. Pleasant will have a total of 22 tour buses coming from Des Moines for the fall convention. Joyce Dennison reported that she has the 150th birthday celebration ornaments for sale to chapter members.

Marcia Kentner and Kay Denning were appointed to the auditing committee. A sign up for hostess and co-hostess was passed as well as a sign-up for committees for the 2019-20 year. Members are to contact Jean Thomson or Jan Lange to volunteer for hostess/co-hostess duties or committees.

President Lana Moeller read her outstanding letter to the Iowa State Chapter President, Kate Raun, outlining the many activities and accomplishments of Chapter NZ this past year.

The nominating committee of Lana Moeller, Betty Lowe and Jan Lange presented the 2019-20 slate of officers: President Jean Thomson; Vice President Jan Lange; Recoding Secretary Shella Allender; Corresponding Secretary Pat Heusmann; Treasurer Deb Mascarenas; Chaplain Lea McCormick; and Guard Nacncy Vens. Delegates to Iowa State convention: Jan Lange and alternate delegates Sheila Allender. The entire slate of officers was elected unanimously.

Vice president, Connie Geiser announced that the next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on March 25, 2019, in the home of Kay Denning, Co-hostesses will be Becky Kauffman, Mary Beth Young, Chris McCormick and Brianne Clark. The program will include initiation and installation of officers.
