Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week?s friend is Dorothy Thorne.
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? No, our family was a transplant from Northeast Missouri in 2005. My husband?s job brought us here.
What is your favorite part of living here? My favorite thing about Mt. Pleasant is its sense of community and helpful people. When we moved here it did not take long for our entire family to feel connected and at home.
What do you like to do in your free time? My husband, Allen, and I go camping any free weekend we can. If we can combine camping with a cycling event or a brewfest, that?s a great weekend.
What is your favorite summertime activity? Our family has done RAGBRAI for nine years now. So we spend a lot of time during the summer bicycling. We have a good group of friends that cycle too, so it is more than just exercise for us.
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn?t have that you?d like to see? I think Walt?s Taproom is an excellent addition to Mt. Pleasant. I would like to see more restaurants like that or maybe even a microbrewery!
Tell us something interesting about you? Allen and I have been together since 1986, married in 1989. We have three sons. Bobby lives in Iowa City and works for Great America in Cedar Rapids, Tommy lives in Manhattan, New York and works for Vert Gardens in Manhattan and Matt is a junior at Iowa State in Ames.
