Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week?s ?Friend on the Front Page? is Cari Nicely, whom you may know as a naturalist at the Henry County Conservation Department.
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant? If not, what brought you here? No ? I?m from Fairfield, but my grandfather was originally from Mt. Pleasant. I drive here for my job at the conservation department. I still live in Jefferson County.
What is your favorite part of living here? I love working here. The people who come to the park for programs and the teachers (and kids) I work with in the school system make the drive worthwhile. I have made some really strong friendships.
What is your favorite local hangout? During the school year I spend a lot of my evenings at The REC Center.
Is there an annual event in Mt. Pleasant you enjoy? I have to say I love 80s night at Keo?s!
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn?t have that you?d like to see? Mt. Pleasant has a pool but doesn?t have a free, public beach. No lake, no beach.
What do you think is Mt. Pleasant trademark? I think that it is its people. It seems there are a lot of ways to meet people if you are new to the area, and people are open to receiving you and offer friendships.
What?s one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? Steak cuts from Keo?s!
Tell us something interesting about you. I can play the piano ?
Both of my sons are Eagle scouts from a Mt. Pleasant Boy Scout troop. My daughter will be attending Iowa Wesleyan University in a few weeks. In fact, she may even play soccer for them!
For not living in Mt. Pleasant, I have some pretty strong ties to the community!
