Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week?s ?Friend on the Front Page? Steve Mendenhall, who you may know from Signs and Designs, Ltd.
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant or Henry County? If not, what brought you here? I was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant.
What do you do in town?I have owned and operated Signs and Designs, Ltd for 22 years now. That, and my sign shop in Fairfield, keep me moving. I have been involved in many organizations in our community over the years, but right now I focus on The Friends of Conservation in Henry County, Ltd., The Investment Club of Mt. Pleasant, and my band, Cuszin Eddy. I should get more involved in the Southeast Iowa Symphony.
What do you like to do in your free time? I don?t have a lot of free time to hang out, so I hang out in my kitchen. I enjoy cooking for people. I was the Mystery Chef at the Country Club last weekend. It was a hoot cooking for 52 people. I play bass in my band. Next year will be 20 years for Cuszin Eddy.
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn?t have you?d like to see? Mt. Pleasant is in dire need of a fine dining experience. I?m talking about casual elegance. Meals that touch your soul. Such an experience is like a mini vacation, and we all need those once in a while.
Tell us something interesting about you. I like to create for the senses. Sight, smell, taste, hearing and touching. If that interests you, then I?m happy. Let?s paint, cook and make music.
