Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week?s ?Friend on the Front Page? is Kate Garretson, whom you may know from Iowa Wesleyan University.
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? Nope, I?m originally from Colorado. After getting my second master?s degree in Information Science and Learning Technology at the University of Missouri-Mizzou, I applied for the E-Resources and Instruction Librarian position at Iowa Wesleyan, and moved here when I got the job.
What is your favorite local hangout? Sip! My husband and I like to go there in the early mornings to enjoy a cup of coffee and spend some time together before we start our workdays. I love the atmosphere and the people who work there, and enjoy knowing that I?m supporting a local business.
What do you like to do in your free time? I don?t have much free time, but when I?m not working at Iowa Wesleyan, I work at the winery that my family owns and operates out of our house. My husband and I have also spent a lot of our free time recently preparing for the birth of our first child, who is due in mid-January.
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn?t have that you?d like to see? I would love to see an Indian restaurant. Don?t get me wrong ? I love pizza, fried food, and Mexican ? but I miss the more diverse restaurant offerings of larger cities.
Tell us something interesting about you? I was a certified wild land firefighter with the AmeriCorps NCCC, and participated in several prescribed burns with the Bureau of Land Management and the National Forest Service. I enjoy using chain saws, making punny jokes, and can wiggle my ears (both independently of one another and both at the same time).
