Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week?s ?Friend on the Front Page? is Cole Duke, whom you may know from US Bank
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? I?m from Cedar Rapids, originally. My wife?s family lives down here, so we moved to stay close to them.
What is your favorite part of living here? The community. I know half the people in this town and they know me. Everyone seems to look out for each other. It?s a small town community feel, compared to the big city, where you might know your neighbor?s name, but you don?t have a relationship with them.
What is your favorite local hangout? Definitely the Pressbox. My favorite dish is the Tiger Sandwich.
What do you like to do in your free time? I am an animal nerd, so I have lots of pets. I have tortoises, geckos, scorpions, fish, cats, and dogs. Basically, just an animal guy.
Is there an annual event in Mt. Pleasant/Henry County that you enjoy? Obviously, got to be Old Threshers. I do a lot of volunteer work out there with them.
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn?t have that you?d like to see? A brewery-which as an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, we have definitely been trying.
What do you think is Mt. Pleasant/Henry County?s trademark? That?s a fantastic question. I think it?s probably community relationships. That?s my favorite part of being down here. It feels like you?re part of a community, where in big cities, like Cedar Rapids, you just live there. You don?t feel like you?re part of something.
Tell us something interesting about you? I?m an ordained minister. I?ve married five couples. I grew up Catholic, and when I saw that I could get ordained on the internet, I was like, ?Why not??
