Weather concerns axe MP wrestling, bowling meets

The stars were aligned for the Mt. Pleasant and Washington to wrestle for first place in the Southeast Conference on Thursday night but the weather didn?t quite cooperate.

The Panthers and Demons have set up the potential conference championship-deciding match by each going undefeated so far in conference play. Mt. Pleasant?s last-match win over Ft. Madison in mid-December helped the Panthers jump to 2-0 in the SEC and a win over Washington last night would have clinched at least a share of the conference crown.

Washington has taken down both Fairfield and Ft. Madison, and only has last-place Keokuk left after their meet against Mt. Pleasant.

The meet was rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 23, which might make the meet even more high-profile. The Panther wrestling team faces Fairfield on Thursday, Jan. 18, meaning the Washington meet will be the final SEC contest of the year.

The MP wrestling meet wasn?t the only home athletic event to get postponed. The bowling team was set to host Keokuk yesterday afternoon, but that contest has been postponed as well.

The Panther wrestling team will travel to Centerville for a tournament on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 9:30 a.m. The MP bowling team will travel to Washington on Saturday, Jan. 20, for their next meet, which begins at 2 p.m.
