Wayland council raises building rent

Rent is going up for the Wayland Community Center as a result of action by the Wayland City Council at the council?s meeting Feb. 7.Rent has been $35 and a $15 cleaning deposit since 1998, city officials said. To help offset the rising cost of maintenance, supplies and cleaning costs, the council unanimously moved to increase the rent cost to $40, effective July 1, and increase the refundable cleaning deposit to $40. Further, the approved motion says that clubs and churches may be charged a deposit for cleaning, if deemed necessary.Other agenda items fell under routine business. Council members approved the fiscal 2018-19 city budget for publication and set the public hearing on the budget for March 7.Specifications for bid requests for a utility pickup and a pickup for the police department were approved.In final agenda matters, the council:? Approved the request for bids to cash rent city-owned farm land;? Agreed to donate $100 to WACO After Prom;? Approved winter campaign marketing materials for the National Service Line Warranty;? Reviewed the city code and the overview and questions from the Iowa Codification for the recodification of city ordinances project.Council members meet again in regular session Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
