WEST BURLINGTON ? The WACO basketball teams were in West Burlington on Tuesday night for an SEISC South Division doublehader. Both teams lost, with the boys? team falling 72-52 and the girls losing 58-37.
The Warrior boys had trouble containing the Falcon offense in the first half. West Burlington outscored WACO 15-9 in the first quarter and 23-17 in the second quarter to take a 38-26 lead into halftime.
The Warriors found themselves in a larger hole after three quarters, trailing 58-37, and couldn?t come back in their final game of 2017.
Nik Coble had a monster game, despite the loss. The sophomore post finished the night with 16 points, 22 rebounds and six blocks. Colton Horak had 13 points, four rebounds, four steals and three blocks, and Calvin Battle finished with 12 points to give the Warriors three double-digit scorers.
Drew Kissell scored six points in the loss, all coming on two three-pointers. Jacob Fried nailed a shot from outside to finish with three of his own and Conner Eichelberger ended the night with two.
The WACO girls went back and forth against the Falcons over the first two quarters. The two teams were tied 13-13 after the first quarter and trailed by just two points, at 23-21, when the halftime buzzer sounded.
West Burlington was able to inch away in the third quarter and took a 37-34 advantage into the fourth. The Warriors ran out of steam in the final period, allowing the Falcons to storm away with a 21-3 advantage to win the game by 21 points.
