WAPELLO ? The Winfield-Mt. Union basketball teams traveled to Wapello for an SEISC North Division doubleheader on Tuesday night. The Lady Wolves fell 45-29 and the boys? team dropped their game 72-32.
The W-MU girls trailed 13-5 after one period and 25-15 at halftime. The Lady Wolves were able to cut the lead back to single-digits at 31-24 after three periods, but Wapello scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to run away.
Jami Wilkerson led the Lady Wolves with 10 points including the team?s only two made three-pointers. Allie McArtor had seven points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
Karley Schlee and Liana Sweezer scored five points apiece and Molly Jennings finished with two. Lexee Hartsock didn?t score in the game, but she did have eight rebounds and led the team with two blocked shots.
The boys? team was unable to contain a high-powered Wapello offense. The Indians outscored the Wolves 26-8 in the first quarter and 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 45-12 lead into halftime. The Indians continued to cruise from that point on, eventually winning the game by 40.
B.J. Rodgers scored 12 points to lead the team in the loss. Jared Arnold scored nine. Cody McCreight had six points. Graham Hagge had three and Mitchell Niebuhr scored two.
