An exhausted driver nodded off and drove his vehicle into a ditch, leading to catch on fire in the 2600 Grid of Highway 78 on Friday, June 22 around 4:24 p.m.
Nathan Wyse, of Mt. Pleasant, was driving home after work last Friday and admitted to law enforcement that he was fatigued and had been nodding off while driving. Wyse swerved across the centerline on Highway 78 and struck a mailbox before crossing back over the centerline a second and third time. Wyse ended with his vehicle in the south ditch. The vehicle then caught on fire, but Wyse was able to escape on his own with minor injuries.
The Henry County Sheriff?s Office, Mt. Union Fire and Rescue and the Winfield Fire Department were able to put out the fire and the vehicle was towed away.
