FT. DODGE ? Each of the top ranked teams advanced at the Class 1A state softball tournament on Monday. Seventh-seeded New London wasn?t the only underdog who went down.

No. 1 seed Collins-Maxwell shut down Newell-Fonda in the first game of the day, walking on to the semifinals 5-0. They will take on fourth-seeded Lisbon in the first semifinal on Wednesday, July 18. Lisbon took an early 3-0 lead over Martensdale-St. Mary?s and held on for a 3-2 win.

In the fourth quarterfinal of the day, AGWSR scored a comeback win over Janesville. The third-seeded Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to spike a late lead. Janesville left a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh and were bumped down to the consolation bracket, where they will take on New London.

The IGHSAU has eliminated the second consolation game for the 2018 tournament, which means Tuesday?s consolation games will be the last for Newell-Fonda, Martensdale-St. Mary?s, New London and Janesville.
