The Iowa Wesleyan softball team wrapped up their 2018 schedule on Monday night, falling 3-1(8) and 12-0 to Webster University. This comes one day after hosting St. Ambrose University, where they were defeated 6-1 and 15-1(5).

Game one was a pitcher?s dual between Webster?s Morgan Mansur and Iowa Wesleyan?s Samantha McIlwain. McIlwain had a great outing, giving up just three runs (two earned) over eight innings on eight hits and four walks, while striking out six batters. Mansur was nearly untouchable, however, striking out 11 in the win.

Only two runs were scored in regulation, both coming across in the third inning. Webster broke a scoreless tie in the top of th third but IW responded with an RBI single from Emmy Rodriguez, which brought home McKenzie Copher.

The Gorloks finally scored again in the eighth inning, plating two to put the pressure on IW. The Tigers had two runners in scoring position after a Sydnee Stalker walk put a second runner on and Ashley Machholz advanced her with a groundout, but IW couldn?t push either run across.

The Tigers couldn?t respond to a five-run Gorlok second inning in game two. Webster added one run each in the third and fourth innings to add some insurance.

McIlwain?s six strikeouts catapulted her to the career strikeout record at IW. The Tiger senior finished her career with 451 strikeouts in a Tiger uniform.

The Tigers collected just three hits in the game two loss, two from Julie Dodd and one from Alex Eyman. Dodd picked up the loss in the circle, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks. Haley Varga also pitched, throwing three innings and giving up six earned runs on five hits and five walks, while striking out one batter.

IW finished the season 7-27 overall and 5-13 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
