NEW LONDON ? The New London girls? basketball team lost two home games over the weekend. The Tigers fell 77-33 to West Burlington on Friday night. On Saturday, the Tigers lost to Pekin 72-17.
New London trailed 15-8 after one quarter on Friday against West Burlington, and trailed 38-19 at halftime. West Burlington?s defense was able to hold the Tigers to just 14 second half points and were able to run away with the win.
Sydni Coleman led the team with eight points, and also finished with four steals. Marah Hartrick had seven points. Laney Loyd had five points and six rebounds. Alexa Wenger finished with five points and five steals.
The Tigers had a ton of trouble stopping a high-scoring Pekin attack on Saturday. New London found themselves in a 46-10 hole at halftime and scored just seven points in the second half.
Savannah Sutherland scored six points in the loss to lead the team. Hartrick and Claire Jones had three points apiece. Loyd, Wenger and Coleman all co-led the team with four rebounds.
New London fell to 0-6 with the loss. They will look to get their first win tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m.
