Spring cleaning for the soul

Greetings to all of you in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray that you are having a blessed spring and that you are enjoying these warm, sunny days.

Regarding the weather, I have a confession to make to you. Even though I live in Iowa, I am not a fan of winter. I suppose my feelings could have been influenced by my southern roots.

Being from Mississippi, I was never exposed to winters such as those we have in Iowa. Growing up, I can remember each measurable snowfall that occurred, for they happened so infrequently.

Even then, I was not a fan of winter. I have always loved the warmer days and the ability to open the windows, allowing the soft breezes to flow inside. I still do.

While I know that winter serves a vital purpose, spring is my favorite time of the year. I really do love this season above all the others.

Spring, in my opinion, is special because it is a time when the earth is renewed, refreshed, and replenished. During this season, all of nature?s elements (rain, sunlight, etc.) work together to promote the growth of new grass, flowers, buds on the trees.

The earth clears away the remnants of winter and restores with glowing vibrancy what was cold, dark and seemingly lifeless.

In the spring, we can see the earth coming alive in new growth. What a joy.

Spring, however, is not only a season of growth for the earth; it is a season of growth for us, too.

It is a time for us to do some ?spring cleaning? within ourselves and allow God to restore those parts of us that have perhaps grown dim in the coldness of winter.

I am reminded of a verse from Psalms, which states, ?Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me? (Psalm 51:10).

This verse stands out to me as a gentle reminder that just as the Earth is restored and refreshed in the spring, so can my heart and spirit be restored and refreshed by our loving God.

Truth be told, we all have our favorite times of the year, and for some of you, the colder days of winter may be at the top of your list.

Nevertheless, it is refreshing to know that, just as the earth does in the spring, we, too, can be refreshed, replenished, and restored.

Unlike the Earth, however, we do not need to wait for the changing of the seasons for our renewal. Our renewal can happen at any time, when we call upon our loving God to renew our spirits.

I pray that you will have a blessed rest of spring and that all your days will be filled with joy and love.

Furthermore, I pray that your spirit will be renewed and refreshed by our God, who not only renews the earth, but us as well.
