The men?s basketball team took on St. Cloud State University, an NCAA Division II school, last night in St. Cloud, Minn. Iowa Wesleyan?s seniors provided much of the scoring for the Tigers, but it was not enough as the Huskies took control of the game early to defeat Iowa Wesleyan 111-68.
Iowa Wesleyan started off slow against the Huskies in the opening half. St. Cloud State jumped out to a 15-4 lead over the Tigers in the first five minutes of action. Mitch Drey scored on a layup to bring the score to 6-15 with 14:35 on the clock. Jake Neubauer cut the lead to nine after sinking a three-pointer with just over twelve and a half minutes remaining in the first half. Brock Butler brought the score to 14-21 with a jumper at the 12 minute mark, That was the closest the Tigers would get in the half as the Huskies went on a run to close out the first half. Iowa Wesleyan trailed 57-27 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Drey scored the first points of the second half with a jumper off a pass from Butler. The Huskies continued to add to their lead during the second half, and Iowa Wesleyan was unable to make a run. Drey sank a three-pointer with 17:38 to cut the St. Cloud State lead to 28. Iowa Wesleyan would not get any closer than that for the remainder of the the game. The Huskies went on to defeat the Tigers 111-68.
The Iowa Wesleyan seniors led the way in last night?s loss. Butler finished with a team high 20 points, while Drey added 18 points for the Tigers. Elijah Johnson recorded 15 points off of 5-11 shooting from the field with three three-pointers.
The Tigers will return to action on December 30 with an exhibition contest against Truman State University. Iowa Wesleyan will tip off at 1 p.m. in Kirksville, Mo. The Tigers are now 1-10 overall and 1-3 in SLIAC play.
