GRIMES ? The Iowa Basketball Coaches Assocation held their All-Star games for both boys? and girls? basketball over the weekend at Dallas Center-Grimes High School. The Southeast teams were represented by two Henry County athletes. Mt. Pleasant?s Brady Sartorius played for the Southeast boys? team and Winfield-Mt. Union?s Lexee Hartsock played for the Southeast girls? team.
The tournaments were made up of four teams: Southeast, Northeast, Northwest and Southwest. Each team was made up of some of the best players around the state of Iowa.
Sartorius played on a team with such stars as Iowa City West?s Joe Wieskamp and Seybian Sims, as well as Wapello?s Trenton Massner among others. The Southeast team won their first game 117-105 over the Northwest team, and fell in the championship game, 107-103 to the Northeast team.
Sartorius scored 19 points in the Southeast team?s semifinal win, hitting three three-point shots along the way. He also scored three points in the championship game, on another make from three-point land.
Sartorius? performance placed him on the All-tournament team. He and Wieskamp were both named to the squad from the Southeast team. Future Hawkeye Wieskamp was named Most Outstanding Player.
Hartsock played alongside a handful of local players including Highland?s Addison Rath, Fairfield?s Amber Buch, Mediapolis? Mackenzie Rodgers and Pekin?s Maci Gambell. Also on the squad was future Cyclone Ashley Joens from Iowa City West.
The Southeast team fell 100-95 in the first round, and won the third-place game, 79-68 over the Northeast squad. Hartsock scored one point on the night, coming in the first round.
The IBCA tournament is made up of seniors from around Iowa who excelled at the sport of basketball in the current season.
