Rev. Paul Hughes, 92, of New London, formerly of Salem and Kansas City, passed away July 18, 2018 at Great River Hospice, West Burlington.
He was born August 9, 1925, in Kansas City to Edward Paul and Lucille King Hughes. He married Frances Humphrey November 19, 1954. They had three children: Tim Hughes of McNeal, Ariz., Becky Ryan of Kansas City and Chris McCurdy of Tulsa, Okla.
Frances passed in 2000. In 2010 he married Phyllis Breuer, New London and attended Salem Congregational Church.
Rev. Hughes pastored more than 55 years in Kansas City; Lincoln, Kan.; Vona, Colo.; Humansville, Mo.; Salem, Iowa (1964-68) and Hartwick, Iowa and was involved in ministries including four years in New Tribes Mission and Aviation Department, Youth for Christ and KC City Union Mission.
Survivors include his wife, children, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; step-children, Alan (Darcella) Breuer, Palmyra, Mo., Linda (Lanny) Rowe and Luan (Sid) Schmidt, New London, and Bruce (Shari) Breuer, Mt. Pleasant; eight step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at noon July 27 at Elliott Chapel, with family present from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be in Kansas City July 30. Online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.
