IOWA CITY ? The Mt. Pleasant wrestling team had a big day on Saturday, finishing second in the Iowa City Regina tournamnent. The Panthers scored 161 points, falling only to Solon, who won the meet with 212.5 points. Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union was tied for fourth with 108 points. Fairfield, the only other SEC team in the field, finished seventh with 81 points.
Mt. Pleasant picked up one win and seven top-three finishes in the tournament. Nate Wallace had the best performance for the Panthers, taking first in the 145 lbs. bracket.
Wallace picked up four pins on the day. He pinned Tipton?s Chance Koch in 47 seconds, Fairfield?s Sabon Simons in 1:44 and Pekin?s Cael Baker in 34 seconds to get to the championship match. In his final match, Wallace pinned Caleb Ebert in 37 seconds.
Abe Wilson went 3-1 on the day for a second-place finish at 152 lbs. He pinned Tyler Conger of Davenport West, in 1:12, topped North Cedar?s Devon Willis 2-1, and pinned HLV?s Caden Fontinel in 3:25 to get to the championship match. He dropped the 152 lbs. championship match to Zach Bevans in a 12-4 major decision.
Zach Beason was the third Mt. Pleasant wrestler to reach the finals. Beason took second place at 195 lbs., picking up two pins along the way. Beason pinned Drew Demory of Iowa City Regina in 42 seconds, and Mason Juhl of Pekin in 1:55, to advance to the finals. Beason was pinned by Marshalltown?s Jordan Fox 43 seconds into the 195 lbs. championship match.
Four Panthers finished third on the day. Corbin Brocker took bronze in the 106 lbs., Garrett Bocker placed 3rd at 160 lbs., Brennen Bender was third at 182 lbs., and Dalton Bass placed third at 220 lbs.
Brayden Ackles competed at 113 lbs., finishing fifth place. James DeMeyer was fifth as well, at 220 lbs. and Henry Lutovsky finished sixth place, at 285 lbs.
The Panther wrestlers will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 21. Mt. Pleasant will travel to West Burlington for a dual beginning at 5 p.m.
