By Andy Krutsinger, Mt. Pleasant News

Kieran Kohorst is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther boys? basketball team.

Kohorst has been a four-year starter for the Panther boys and is currently scoring 6.8 points per game for the 2017-18 squad. He is also a member of the Panther football team.

Kohorst met with The News on Wednesday before practice. The questions will appear in bold type with his answers following.

Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? Yes.

How long have you been playing basketball? Since I was in third grade.

Do you have plans for after high school? Yeah, I?m going to Drake University next year, and I hope to play football there.

Looking back to last year, what memory sticks out most? Definitely the Oskaloosa game in Fairfield. That was crazy because the gym was so packed. I can remember walking out for warm ups and there were just people standing everywhere, and it?s never been like that before when I?ve been there. So that was crazy.

What is the locker room like before a game? Are you guys loose or serious? We always used to be pretty serious my freshman and sophomore year, and a couple occasions my junior year, but this year we are kind of a bit more loose, a bit more confident, and just relaxed before games. We all have our routines we go through with each other and just have fun.

Is that from familiarity or success? I think it?s a little bit of both. We?ve kind of proven ourselves from last year that we can play with good teams. We don?t have much to stress about and we?re all comfortable with each other.

What?s it like this year playing with your brother Keegan? It?s cool. I got a little bit of it in football too. This year, it?s a little different having him in the locker room with everybody. It?s a different dynamic, but it still adds to the closeness of the locker room and everything. He gets along with everybody, which is nice. We just have a lot of fun together.

Does he ever do anything at home that makes you not want to pass him the ball? No, we get along at home!

How many players on the varsity team can dunk? Brady (Sartorius) claims he can dunk but I?ve never seen it. Jonathan (Ita) can do it pretty consistently. Sam Beatty gets it easy. I?ve done it a couple times in practice (but) other than that, nobody is really close.

We have to clear the air here because last year I talked to Brady and he said that he beats you at 2K every time, basically. What actually happens when you two play against each other? He definitely doesn?t beat me every time! I?ve beaten him a couple times, he?s beat me a couple times, but we don?t play that much. I play him in Madden sometimes, and I beat him in Madden for sure, almost every time. 2K, we haven?t played that in a while. I?ve got to get back at him for that.

Were you offended to read that in the newspaper? Yeah! (Laughing) He told me about it right when he got done. He walked in the locker room and just started talking trash to me about it.

What is your favorite food? Probably chocolate covered strawberries.

If you could hang out with one celebrity for a whole day, who would it be? I?d probably go Lonzo Ball.

So are you a ?Big Baller?? I?ve got a shirt. I got one of the ?Big Baller? shirts. It?s like my most prized possession. I love it.

What would you guys do? We?re hanging out in L.A. probably. There?s a lot of stuff to do there. Maybe go to the gym or something like that and just hang out.

What if you could have a super power? Being invisible would be cool. Flying would be cool. There?s a lot. I?m trying to think of ?The Incredibles? right now, honestly?those are all pretty cool.

Who is your favorite teacher? Probably Mrs. Bos. I haven?t had her in an actual class yet, but she?s my adviser. I have her for a couple classes next semester, so I?m looking forward to that.

Last question, do you have any shout outs? I?m going to go with Brady, and Austin Buckert.
