Panther Profile: Dalton Bass

By Andy Krutsinger, Mt. Pleasant News

Dalton Bass is a senior at Mt. Pleasant and a member of the Panther wrestling team. He is wrestling at 220 lbs., after reaching the 25-win mark at 195 lbs. last season, and is also a member of the Mt. Pleasant football team.

Bass met with The News on Wednesday after practice. The questions are in bold with his answers following.

Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? I did not.

Where did you grow up? Kind of all over. I started in South Dakota, and then kind of moved from there.

When did you get into Mt. Pleasant? My freshman year I moved here.

How long have you been wrestling? I?ve been wrestling since seventh grade.

What got you into it? Anything specific? (I got into it) to work on my skills in football, and then I kind of fell in love.

What are your plans for after high school? Right now the plan is to start my dream job, as a mechanic. I already have a job lined up. Then go from there.

Do you prefer duals or tournaments? Probably duals, just because tournaments get to me a little more. You can still win as a team in a dual. In a tournament, it?s kind of all you. If you do great then you win, but if you don?t, you lose. In a dual you have the rest of your team to help you out.

How often do you weigh yourself? Every day. When I wake up and before I go to bed.

Are you close on weight right now or are you pretty comfortable? Oh, I?ve got plenty of room!

Do you ever talk to your opponent at all? There have been a few I?ve talked to. More in camps, but there have been a few who I?ve wrestled in tournaments and then I?ll talk to them in breaks.

Has anyone ever tried to trash talk you to get into your head or anything like that? There?s been one kid that said something to me, but other than that, no. Not in the middle (of the mat).

Who?s your seat buddy on long road trips? That?s a hard one. At first, it would have been my brother, when he was on my team. Otherwise, if I had to choose, it would be one of the littler guys, so either Corbin (Broeker) or (Brayden) Ackles, so I?d have more room.

If you could wrestle anyone in the world, regardless of weight, who would you take on? (Olympic champion) Jordan Burroughs would be awesome to beat, but that?s like?

That?s like lofty goals, right? Yeah!

How long do you think you?d last? If he went a little light on me, I might last 30 seconds.

You can hang out with one celebrity for a whole day, who do you choose? If it had to be only one, it would have to be Heavy D from ?Diesel Brothers.? It?s a show where you?ve got four main guys who build big, huge diesel trucks, and they give away some and sell some. Oh, I love that show.

What would you guys do? Talk about trucks, that?s for sure! I would definitely learn as much as I could.

Do you have a truck? I?ve got a Suburban.

What if you could have one super power? I always think about this, actually. It would probably be super strength because then I could lift whatever I want and throw around whatever I want. Just kind of man-handle everything.

You?d probably be a pretty phenomenal wrestler too. Right!

What?s your favorite movie? Star Wars. Any of the Star Wars movies.

Are you going to see the new one? I plan to, as soon as possible.

Best fast food restaurant? Choosing during wrestling, it would be Subway. It?s good. It may not be the cheapest, but it?s good for you and it?s not too heavy.

What sandwich do you get? Chicken Bacon Ranch melt. All I put on it is lettuce and spinach.

Who is your favorite teacher? Probably be Mr. Newman, the Trades teacher. I see him every day. He?s a pretty fun guy.

Do you have any shout outs? You can shout out anyone you want. I?m going to shout out Colin Mulford and Austin Buckert.
