By Andy Krutsinger, Mt. Pleasant News

Cooper Huckabone is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Mt. Pleasant baseball team.

Huckabone has been a starter on the varsity squad for the last three years, playing first and third base. He leads the team offensively this year, batting .458 with two home runs and 31 RBIs.

Huckabone braced the heavy rain and winds on Wednesday afternoon for his interview. The questions are in bold with his answers following.

Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? Yes I did. I?ve been here all my life.

How long have you been playing baseball? As long as I can remember. I kind of grew up with it, so it?s always been there.

Was it a family thing? Yep! My dad played in college and I was just born into it.

Do you have plans for after high school? I?m going to Indian Hills to play baseball and get my associates degree in Science.

Awesome, and do you know what you?re going to do with it? Athletic training. Going to stay with sports somehow so it should be good.

What is your pre-game routine like? I usually get here before everyone else and I hit in the cage by myself with a tee. Just kind of get ready, and then it?s usually just hanging out and going with the flow.

Is getting here early a mental thing or just wanting to be as prepared as you can? I just get prepared by myself. Get prepared and get ready.

If you have to pick one of your teammates to give a good pregame speech, who are you choosing? Probably Jordan Magnani. He talks a lot. He just chats a lot, but I feel like he could pump us up pretty well.

If Coach Broeker pitches against you, one at bat, what is the result? Oh, I?m taking him deep. I don?t care what field we?re on, if it?s the biggest field ever. Broek doesn?t have the gas to get it by me.

Would you go left field or go opposite field on him? I?ll go opposite field. I?ll make it hard for myself even.

When you?re not at school or practice, what would we find you doing? Probably just hanging with friends, watching sports. Just hanging out.

Do you have a favorite sports team? Cubs, definitely.

You can hang out with one celebrity for a whole day, who do you choose? That?s a tough one. Probably Will Farrell, because he?s just hilarious.

What would you guys do? Well see, he?s a baseball guy too, so we might hang out, watch a baseball game. It?d be fun.

What if you could have one super power? Super speed. Because I?m not fast to start off with, but being quick would be fun. It would be another ability to add to my game.

If you had to live a day as an animal, what would you choose? Probably a lion. A lion would be sweet. You?d just be the king. Or a shark. I think a shark would be sweet.

Would you attack anybody if you were a shark? No, I think I?d be?I?d be a nice shark for the day!

Would you rather be rich or famous? Rich.

Don?t want the notoriety? Yeah, yeah.

Favorite cell phone app? Probably Snapchat or Spotify.

Favorite movie or TV show? The Office for sure, it?s hilarious.

Who was your favorite teacher in all your time here at Mt. Pleasant? Probably Mrs. Anderson. She was awesome. I had her for two years and she was pretty cool.

Do you like math? Yeah. It?s not my favorite but of all the subjects it?s probably the best one.

Do you have any shout outs? I?m going to shout out my sister, Emma.

Nice, any reason? No?well she asked for it, so I had to give it to her. (Laughing)
