Colby Potts is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther baseball team.
Potts has been a major part of the varsity squad for the last three years. This year he has pitched and played both first base and designated hitter for Mt. Pleasant.
Potts met with The News on Wednesday during practice. The questions are in bold with his answers following.
Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? Yes, born and raised.
How long have you been playing baseball? I?ve been playing since t-ball, so kindergarten.
Do you know what you?re doing after high school? I?m attending the University of Iowa for radiology.
Do you have a favorite baseball memory? Probably beating Fairfield last year at their place, sweeping them for the conference championship.
Out of all the positions you?ve played, which one are you more comfortable at? Pitching. I love pitching. I?ve been doing it forever.
Is it about having that much control? Yep, I just like going out there and showing the other team what I?ve got. That?s a lot of fun for me.
If Coach Broeker had a mute button and he could use it whenever he wanted during practice, who would he use it on the most? Jordan Magnani. He likes to hear himself talk.
What is your favorite type of music? Country music.
Favorite sports team? New York Yankees.
Is that since you were a little kid? Yep! My dad was born in New York, so it?s been in the family for a while. I was raised in a Yankee family.
We?re going to play a game. For each of the following questions you answer yourself or your twin brother Caleb? Who is more competitive? I?d have to go with Caleb. He?s way more competitive than me. We?re both pretty competitive.
Who is a better cook? Me. He can?t cook.
He can?t cook at all? No. He?s microwave only.
Who is a better driver? I am. I haven?t been pulled over and he got a ticket the other year, so?
Oh really, what did he get a ticket for? Speeding. Poor guy.
Who helps out more around the house more? Caleb. I usually do things poorly the first time around so I don?t get asked to do it again.
That?s pretty smart. I know! I?m the smart one between the two for sure.
Who has the better haircut? I do. No haircut is the best haircut.
When is the last time you actually got it cut? I got it trimmed in April, but other than that it?s been a whole year since I?ve cut my hair.
Did you and Magnani do it together or is it just kind of a coincidence? I think he saw how good I looked and wanted to grow it out himself.
He was a little jealous? Yeah, he was.
If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? Chris Pratt. He?s a pretty cool dude.
Are you a Guardians of the Galaxy fan? I am, Guardians is hilarious.
What would you guys do? We?d probably take a long walk on the beach somewhere and go out to eat, nice seafood dinner.
What if you could pick a superpower to have for the rest of your life? Super speed. I?m a pretty slow guy, so that would be pretty cool.
Do you think you?d take Magnani?s leadoff spot if you had super speed? Oh, definitely. He?s slow anyways, so it wouldn?t be hard to beat.
If you could go out for a sport that you haven?t went out for, what would you choose? Men?s volleyball. Big volleyball guy.
Do you go play pick-up at the REC or anything? I played this year for my mom?s team. Dominated. Those 40-year-olds couldn?t handle me.
Favorite teacher? I have a couple. Mrs. Anderson for sure is one, and then Mr. Bjork and Mr. Broeker. I like all three pretty equally.
Is it a math thing? They?re all math teachers. No, it?s not a math thing, they?re all just pretty cool dudes.
Do you have any shout outs? I?ve got a couple. I?d like to shout out my good friend Grant Goody. He has a lot of energy that brings people together and he?s a real crowd pleaser. And I?d also like to shout out Mango (Zach Manganello). I love that dude.
Nice, any other reasons? Well, Zach told me to shout him out and I was definitely going to shout out Grant.
