The Mt. Pleasant junior varsity football team picked up their first win of the season on Thursday night, outlasting Pella 22-12. The Panthers scored 22 straight points for the comeback victory after trailing 12-0 early on.
Mt. Pleasant scored on a quarterback keeper by Brody Bender to make it 12-6. Ethan Oilar hit a 21-yard field goal to cut the lead to 12-9 at halftime.
The Panthers scored two more times in the second half, with Chase Williamson and Brevin Wilson both hauling in touchdown passes to help the Panthers complete the comeback victory.
Bender finished 11-27 for 143 yards and two scores to go along with his one rushing touchdown. Williamson had two catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell Moothart had three catches for 32 yards, and Wilson finished with two catches, 35 yards and a score. Orin Cantu?s 39 rushing yards led the team on the ground.
Klayton Kleinkopf co-led the defense with five tackles, two of which came for a loss. Bender had five tackles as well. Mitchell Trexel and Brennan Bender had 3.5 tackles apiece.
Pearson Franklin, Hoang Mai and Chase Adams had 2.5 tackles apiece. Williamson had two tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
