The playoff stage is officially set in Class 4A softball. The Iowa Girls? Athletic Union released its postseason brackets on Friday for Class 4A and 5A, and Mt. Pleasant knows what their postseason road will look like in 2018.

Mt. Pleasant will compete in Class 4A Region 5. The Panthers were grouped with a few familiar teams, especially in their half of the six-team bracket.

The Panthers will play Fairfield on the road in their first round matchup on Thursday, July 5. The Panther-Trojan matchup will be a rare first-round rematch of two state tournament qualifiers from the previous year.

The winner of that game will face off with another 2017 state qualifier. No. 6 Oskaloosa awaits the winner for a second-round game to be played in Oskaloosa.

The Panthers are 0-2 against Fairfield so far this season. They?ll play two more games in Mt. Pleasant later this year.

Mt. Pleasant has been knocked out by Oskaloosa two straight years. The Indians eliminated the Panthers in the substate game in 2016 and in an overtime thriller state quarterfinal in 2017.

On the other side of the bracket, Clear Creek-Amana hosts Washington with the winner facing No. 13 Newton.

Whichever two teams come out of the regional semifinals will meet on Tuesday, July 10, for a ticket to Des Moines.
