Panther boys? tennis tops Fairfield, girls fall at home

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams had two different results in their Southeast Conference games against Fairfield on Thursday evening. The boys? team toppled the Trojans 6-3 but the girls? team was swept 9-0.


The Panther boys went 3-3 in singles and 3-0 in doubles to take down a road win in Fairfield. Individual wins went to Ethan Weber (6-1, 6-0) in the No. 1 game, Elijah Plooster (6-3, 6-4) in the No. 4 match and Jack Schimmelpfennig (6-2, 7-5) in the No. 5 game.


Corbin Broeker lost a tight one in the No. 2 match, dropping the game 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Jaxon Hoyle had a similar result in the No. 3 match falling 7-6(5), 5-7, 10-5. Donny Arledge was swept 6-0 and 6-0 in the No. 6 match.


Broeker and Hoyle bounced back with a big win in No. 1 doubles, taking the match 1-6, 6-4, 10-8. Weber and Schimmelpfennig grinded out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 win in the No. 2 match and Plooster and Arledge made it three three-set wins in a row for MP, winning 4-6, 6-4 and 10-8 in the No. 3 doubles match.


The Panther girls went 0-6 in singles matches. No. 1 Erin Zihlman and No. 2 Hallie Sandeen both lost 8-0. Sierra Barton dropped the No. 3 match 8-1. Shaleen Thiengmany lost the No. 4 match 8-3. Breeana Runton fell 8-4 in the No. 5 match and Olivia Larson was dropped 8-0 in the No. 6 match.


The No. 1 doubles team of Zihlman and Thiengmany fell 8-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Sandeen and Barton also lost 8-0. The No. 3 doubles team had the closest match of the night for Mt. Pleasant but still fell 8-4.
