Panther boys pound Hounds

Ft. Madison ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? basketball team remained unbeaten in Southeast Conference play on Friday night. The Panthers dominated Ft. Madison 62-38 for their third SEC win of the season.

Ft. Madison hung in early. The Panthers outscored the Bloodhounds 19-11 in the first quarter. Mt. Pleasant?s offense struggled a bit in the second quarter but the Panthers still stretched the lead by two points. MPCHS held a 29-19 advantage when the halftime buzzer sounded.

The Panthers ran away with the game in the third quarter. Mt. Pleasant won the third quarter 20-9 and took a 49-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

Mt. Pleasant was able to cruise through the fourth quarter and stretch the advantage to a 24-point win. The Panthers were able to get 12 players onto the floor by the time it was all said and done.

Brady Sartorius and Jordan Magnani were the one-two punch that led the way for Mt. Pleasant. Sartorius had 20 points and seven assists in the win. Magnani added 18 points of his own.

Colin Mulford scored seven points on the night. Kieran Kohorst had six points and eight rebounds. Tucker Johnson scored six. Rhett Zeglen had three and Maison Ashton scored two.

The Panthers moved to 4-2 on the year and 3-0 in conference play. They will be on the road tonight (Monday) against a talented 4A squad in Linn-Mar. Mt. Pleasant is currently ranked ninth in the Associated Press poll in 3A, and Linn-Mar is 10th in 4A, making it a matchup of ranked squads.
