BURLINGTON ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? golf team is moving on to the district tournament after battling to a second-place finish in Thursday morning?s substate at Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington.
The Panthers shot a 325, which was good enough for second place and a district berth. Oskaloosa won the event with a 316 to pick up the other qualifying spot.
The Panthers were led by three players who finished under 80 for the day. Oskaloosa and Mt. Pleasant were the only two teams to accomplish that feat.
Jake Moffett led the Panthers individually. He shot a 78, which tied him with Oskaloosa?s Austin Hafner for third place. Moffett shot a 41 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine to finish with that score.
Trace White and Rhett Zeglen each shot a 79, which put them in a five-way tie for fifth. White shot a 42 on the front nine and went 37 on the back nine. Zeglen shot a 39 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine.
Brevin Wilson was the fourth for the Panthers, making him the final scorer. He shot a 46 on his front nine and a 43 on the back nine to finish at 89.
Bailey Shelledy shot a 41 on the front nine and a 53 on the back nine, which closed his round out at 94. Austin Buckert rounded out the Panthers with a 100, shooting a 51 on the front nine and a 49 on the back nine.
Mt. Pleasant?s state-qualifying site will be Oskaloosa at Edmunson Golf Course. The complete field has not been released as there are still district tournaments going on today (Friday).
The district tournament will take place on Thursday, May 17. It will have a start time of 10 a.m.
