Both Mt. Pleasant basketball teams will be back in action tonight (Friday) as the Panthers take on Ft. Madison in Southeast Conference action.
The Panthers will be looking to keep up momentum gained in the conference after sweeping Keokuk last Friday. The boys? team enters tonight?s action 2-0 in the SEC, and the girls come in 1-1.
The Mt. Pleasant boys will be on the road. The Panthers know it will be no walk in the park, especially after the scare the Bloodhounds gave them in last year?s district semifinals.
After topping the Bloodhounds both times in the regular season in 2016-17, Mt. Pleasant found themselves at a halftime deficit, with their season on the line. The Panthers did pull out the win, but it was the biggest scare from any SEC team last season.
Going into the game tonight, Ft. Madison sits at 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the state of Iowa. The Bloodhounds lost a heartbreaker in Danville on Tuesday night.
The girls enter tonight?s home game 2-2 overall and 1-1 in SEC play. If Mt. Pleasant can take out Ft. Madison tonight and defeat Washington on the road on Jan. 5, the Panthers could find themselves right in the thick of the SEC race. MPCHS finished ahead of both the Bloodhounds and Demons last season.
Tonight?s games will both begin at approximately 7:30 p.m., with freshman and junior varsity games preceding both.
