Oakland Mills to host 2 programs this month

On Sunday, Aug. 19, Ferrel Anderson, archaeologist, will visit Oakland Mills Nature Center at 2 p.m. Mr. Anderson will begin his artifact presentation with the Black Hawk War shadowed by a brief summary of Mississippi River Valley archaeology. After his presentation, there will be a question and answer time followed by artifact identification. Feel free to bring your own artifacts for Mr. Anderson to look at during this segment. Preregistration is appreciated, but not required. This program is free and for all ages.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m., the program Fish Lips and Casting Tips will take place in the Oakland Mills Nature Center classroom presented by both Henry County Naturalists. After a PowerPoint about Iowa fish, a short fishing experience will follow at the nature center pond. All equipment and bait will be provided. No license necessary as this is a catch and release only learning experience. Registration for the free program is required by Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. In order to host the program, a minimum of ten people must preregister.
