WAYLAND ? There were no student injuries after a WACO Community School District school bus was involved in a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning.
The accident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 11, on Highway 78 east of Wayland. According to WACO principal Jeff Nance, the school bus driver did not see the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 78 and Benton Avenue. The bus hit the vehicle and slid into the ditch. ?They called 911 immediately and took the kids off the bus,? he said.
Another bus was sent to the scene, loaded up the children and took them on to school. ?There were some kids delayed,? Nance said. ?The bus in the accident had six kids they had not picked up yet.? Nance picked up the remaining students with the district van.
Nance stated none of the students on the bus were injured in the accident. The individual driving the other vehicle was transported to a hospital as a precaution, he said.
?I just want to thank everyone that helped out,? Nance said. ?The first responders did an awesome job, as did the Highway Patrol who directed traffic.?
