NL boys stay undefeated with 2-0 weekend

NEW LONDON ? The New London boys? basketball team continued their undefeated season this weekend, topping two Southeast Iowa Super Conference teams.


The Tigers held off West Burlington 70-61 on Friday night in New London, and returned home to top Pekin 63-45 on Saturday.


Friday night?s game against West Burlington was the closest content of the year for the Tigers. New London led 17-10 after the first quarter, but West Burlington cut the lead to 31-25 at halftime, and inched a little closer in the third quarter, cutting the Tigers? lead to 46-41.


The Falcons were in striking distance but a high-scoring fourth quarter helped New London pull away. The Tigers won the final period 24-20 to walk out with a nine-point win.


Isaac McSorley had a monster game, finishing with 20 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Grant Swantson had a good night as well, scoring 20 points and blocking three shots.


Keontae Luckett had a double-double in the win. He scored 15 points and dished out 10 assists Alex Dentlinger scored five points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Tyler Henecke finished the night with five points.


New London won every quarter on Saturday against Pekin. The Tigers held a 36-24 halftime lead and continued to pull away throughout the second half to pick up an 18-point win.


McSorley had another big game, scoring 23 points and tallying seven steal. Dentlinger scored 12 points. Swanson had 10 points and six rebounds.


Luckett had eight points and nine rebounds in the win. Koby McBeth scored six points. Henecke and Jalen Birdsell finished with two points apiece.


New London moved to 5-0 on the year. The Tigers will take on Pekin tonight (Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m.
