NEW LONDON ? The New London wrestling team hosted the 2017 Jeremy Fulk Classic on Saturday. The hosting Tigers placed third in the event with 150.5. WACO placed fifth with a score of 107.
The Tigers picked up two wins at the tournament. Sam Loyd won at 126 lbs., and Gavin Holmes won at 170 lbs.
Loyd?s win was his fourth victory in four years at the Jeremy Fulk Classic. He was voted the Mike Kelly Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament. He was the fourth New London wrestler to ever accomplish that feat.
Loyd?s win came on a bye, a fall and a technical fall. His technical fall was in the championship match over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont?s Tayton Richard. Loyd finished Richard off at 18-3, in 4:09.
Holmes had a bye and two falls to pick up his victory. In the 170 lbs., finals, he pinned Drew Chiprez of West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville in 2:38.
New London also picked up two second-place finishes and three third-place finishes. Gabe Carter placed second at 160 lbs, and Jaxon Allen placed second at 195 lbs. Javis Krieger placed third at 138 lbs. Currey Jacobs-Miller was third at 152 lbs. Owen Reed was third at 220 lbs.
WACO had one win on the night. Cody Crawford won the 285 lbs., bracket with a bye and two falls.
Crawford defeated West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville?s Drake Fox in the championship. Crawford pinned Fox in 2:32.
The Warriors finished third place in three weight classes. Jaden Collins placed third at 120 lbs. Jaden Williams was third at 126 lbs., and Chase Hesseltine placed third at 132 lbs.
Eddyville-Blakesburg won the team trophy with 211 points. Louisa-Muscatine was second with 171 points.
