New London softball shuts down Cardinal

NEW LONDON ? The New London softball team picked up a shut out win in their first game of 2018. The dynamic pitching duo of Sydni Coleman and Camryn Blint kept the Comets off balance all game en route to a 6-0 victory.

Coleman started the game and threw five innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three batters. Blint threw two innings, giving up one hit as well and striking out two.

New London scored one run in the first inning, two in the third inning and three in the fifth.

Blint went 4-4 in the win and scored two runs. Carson McSorley was 3-4 with two runs. Laney Loyd was 2-4 with three RBIs and a run. Breanna Mettler hit a homerun in the win and finished 1-3 with three RBIs and one run scored.

McSorley, Blint and Mettler each stole one base on the night.

New London will be at Mediapolis tonight (Wednesday) for their first road game. The Tigers and Bullettes will meet up at 6 p.m.
