DONNELLSON ?The New London softball team continued to look sharp to start the season. The Tigers shut down Mediapolis 9-0 on the road Wednesday and followed that up with a 9-7 win at Central Lee on Thursday.
Camryn Blint and Sydney Coleman combined for a one-hit shutout in Wednesday?s victory. Blint threw five innings, giving up one hit, while striking out nine batters. Coleman threw the final two innings and held the Bullettes hitless, striking out one batter in the process.
Laney Loyd had a huge game, going 4-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Blint was 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Breanna Mettler went 2-5 with two RBIs.
Kara Krieger had a solo homerun in the game. She finished 1-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Coleman was 1-3 with an RBI.
The Tigers scored the first seven runs of the game on Thursday, putting up three runs in the first inning and one each in the second, third, fourth and fifth. Central Lee responded with four in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4.
New London added two insurance runs in the sixth inning. Central Lee put up a fight in the seventh, scoring three runs of their own, but the Tigers got out of the jam to pick up their third-straight win.
Coleman finished 2-5 with two RBIs in the win. Krieger and Alexa Wenger were both 2-3. McSorley and Blint also went 2-5.
Coleman was the winning pitcher during Thursday?s win. Blint picked up the save.
