New London girls break it open in fifth

ELDON ? New London and Cardinal were tied at 2-2 through four innings in their SEISC South Division matchup on Tuesday night, but a five-run fifth willed the Tigers to a 7-2 victory.


New London scored one run in the top of the first. Cardinal responded with two in the bottom of the first, and the Tigers tied it at 2-2 with one in the third. It was scorless from that point on until the fifth.


New London had four players with multiple hits in the win. Breanna Mettler went 2-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Layney Loyd went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kara Krieger was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Carson McSorley went 2-4 with a run scored. Ashlyn McSorley scored two runs in the win, and Alexa Wenger knocked one in.


Camryn Blint was on the mound for New London, and gave up just two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks. Blint struck out seven batters in the victory.
